CXOToday has engaged in an exclusive interview with Nitin Gavade, Director – Offering Management – Global Edge (ASI) + Racks & ITMS (India), Vertiv

  1. What are the latest Vertiv innovations in power and cooling solutions for data centers that Vertiv offers?

We have been at the forefront of providing critical infrastructure to reduce energy consumption and increase operational efficiency, which is essential in today’s data center environment. To address the needs of high-performance computing (HPC) data centers, we introduced the Vertiv EnergyCore battery cabinets that save floorspace and are designed to operate across a wide temperature range. These cabinets can be used with our current and legacy three-phase Vertiv uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, including the Vertiv Trinergy and Liebert APM2.

Another innovative addition to our portfolio is two new CoolChip CDU (coolant distribution unit) systems that allow modular, cost-effective liquid cooling deployments to be used alongside traditional air-cooled racks.

  1. What role does Vertiv play in helping data centers manage the increased demand for power due to AI workloads?

The rise of AI workloads has significantly increased the power requirements in data centers. In order to address this, we offer cooling and power solutions only help data centers meet these demands. In addition, they optimize energy consumption, enhance cooling efficiency, ensure system reliability, and reduce environmental impact. We also offer customers the Vertiv 360AI, our end-to-end solution for AI data centers which also caters to specific solutions based on their requirements.

  1. How does Vertiv align with the “Make in India” initiative, and what investments or partnerships are you focusing on in this area?

Vertiv is a strong supporter of the “Make in India” movement. Our commitment to the same can be seen via our efforts to expand our local manufacturing and R&D footprint. Earlier this year, we opened a new manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune to meet the growing demand for data centers and support infrastructure solutions. This is our third facility in India after Ambernath and another facility in Pune. Operations at our new plant include the manufacturing of thermal management products and solutions tailored for colocation, cloud, telecom, and enterprise data centers for customers from India and the APAC region.

  1. Does Vertiv offer any solution for NVIDIA’s GB200 NVL72 customers?

Yes, we have co-developed an end-to-end power and cooling reference design with NVIDIA to support AI-driven workloads. The reference architecture will accelerate the deployment of the NVIDIA GB200 NVL72 liquid-cooled rack-scale platform that optimizes speed, performance, cost, energy efficiency and scalability for current- and future-generation data centers.

  1. Where do you see the data center industry heading in the next 5-10 years, and how is Vertiv preparing for these shifts?

AI is rapidly transforming the data center industry, and we foresee power and cooling playing a central role over the course of the next decade. As AI workloads push computing to unprecedented levels, data centers will require higher power densities and advanced cooling methods. These innovations will address the increasing thermal demands driven by the technology’s reliance on GPU processing. Power infrastructure will also evolve, with AI racks demanding high-density UPS systems and batteries capable of handling sudden load fluctuations. As AI’s power consumption escalates, data centers will prioritize energy efficiency, pushing for energy alternatives like fuel cells and microgrids, as well as the development of small modular reactors. Collaboration among chip developers, customers, and infrastructure manufacturers will be key to supporting the AI Factory model. Meanwhile, cybersecurity challenges will grow, prompting data centers to integrate advanced AI-driven security measures to stay ahead of emerging threats.
