- As India’s first Shopify Plus Partners, how did Marmeto help scale businesses on Shopify?
When Marmeto started working on Shopify in 2017, we realised the platform was suitable for global usage. We recognized the platform’s need for significant innovation to address localization challenges effectively. India presented unique hurdles that required tailored solutions, and we were determined to meet those needs.
Among the key issues we identified were payment methods, user verification, the type of discounts, and additional data display and capture during the e-commerce journey. These were just a few of the critical problems that we tackled head-on. Solving these challenges played a pivotal role in accelerating Shopify’s adoption in India.
Our work didn’t go unnoticed. The Shopify India Team soon recognized our efforts, which led to us being onboarded as their extended tech team in India. This partnership allowed us to collaborate closely with Shopify, helping them tailor their platform to serve Indian merchants better. Our focus on addressing these specific challenges not only made Shopify more accessible in India but also earned us the trust of an initial set of merchants.
From those early days, there has been no looking back. As eCommerce grew, Shopify continued to grow, and so did Marmeto. Our initial success has been driven purely by word of mouth, a commitment to delivering the right services, and an unwavering focus on technology. Tech Innovation has always been at the heart of our work, leading us to become Shopify’s first Plus Partner in India.

- Elaborate on Maremto’s transition to focussing on enabling enterprises nationally and globally with technology to enrich their customers’ online journey
From the very beginning, Marmeto’s unwavering focus has been on technology. We intentionally narrowed our offerings to purely being a tech partner. This decision allowed us to dive deeper into the complexities of technology, enabling us to craft tailored solutions for our clients.
Very early after our inception, we had the opportunity to work with prominent brands like Aqualens, Imagine, MTR Foods, etc. These collaborations challenged us to think broadly about the unique obstacles high-volume DTCs and Enterprises face and how we could address them through innovative technological solutions.
Working with these large-scale operations exposed us to challenges that were equally significant in scope, prompting us to develop robust strategies to overcome them. It also forced us to think beyond and put necessary preventives for the scale these brands were achieving in terms of commerce and their complexities in large-scale operations. This experience has been instrumental in shaping our expertise in solving problems that occur on a grand scale. We’ve gained a deep understanding of how to anticipate and address issues related to traffic surges, system integrations, and data management as brands scale.
As the years have passed, we’ve continued to collaborate with more enterprise-level and high-volume DTC brands, including industry leaders like Lenskart, Borosil, Raymonds, Dalmia Cements, Kohler, and MTR Foods. These brands, all managing high traffic levels, presented us with new challenges with every project. Each project has refined our capabilities, strengthening our ability to tackle the complex technological issues accompanying rapid growth.Today, Marmeto is a powerhouse of technological expertise, equipped with the right strategies and tools to help brands scale efficiently in e-commerce. Our focus remains steadfast on enabling enterprise brands to navigate the complexities of commerce technology, ensuring they continue to grow and thrive in an increasingly competitive market.
- With the Indian eCommerce industry booming- what does the leadership think about the usage of AI in growing the industry?
We observe the rapid adoption of AI in many companies, and a combination of AI can also be observed in numerous tech tools and systems. At Marmeto, we currently have yet to make any immediate plans regarding the use of AI; however, we are open to exploring all possible opportunities.
- How has the bootstrapped journey been? What were some of the challenges faced while scaling the business?
Building a business from scratch is daunting, especially without external funding. At Marmeto, we’ve navigated these challenges without the advantages of prestigious academic backgrounds, influential networks, or family financial support.
Even securing a decent office space was a struggle in our early days. Our first office’s main perk was unlimited chai and biscuits, which often doubled as breakfast and dinner. Hiring posed another major challenge. “It was tough to attract talent without offering high salaries,” we remember. Yet, despite these financial limitations, we were driven by a compelling vision to excel in creating e-commerce solutions and experiences.
Operating the business presented its own hurdles. Simple tasks were problematic, like traveling to meet clients or providing our team with the best tools and systems.
We couldn’t always offer financial incentives or holidays to reward outstanding work. Despite these obstacles, our commitment to our vision remained unwavering, and we found innovative ways to thrive while maintaining our bootstrap status.
Every aspect of our business, from client acquisition to retention, demanded resourcefulness and determination. We learned to navigate these challenges effectively. Reflecting on our journey, we are grateful for these hurdles as they spurred our growth in the most organic way possible. Today, our company culture focuses on achieving profitability with minimal investment, a principle we staunchly uphold as essential for our business model.
- What are Marmeto’s vision and goals for the upcoming two years?
We are fully committed to achieving ambitious growth, aiming to double our annual revenue. Our approach involves expanding our presence into new global markets and we plan to seamlessly integrate both online and offline channels, ensuring a cohesive customer experience.
Additionally, we are focused on scaling our operations to support this expansion effectively. By implementing these strategies, we aim to enhance our market presence and increase our profitability significantly. Solidifying our position as a company that is here to stay.
- How is Marmeto different from other e-commerce solution providers

Today, we’re proud to drive the online success of industry leaders such as ITC, Unilever, Levis, Birkenstock, Kohler, Borosil, Dalmia Cement, Raymond, and BoAt. For instance, Dalmia Cement experienced a 30% sales increase within just three months of implementing our technology. Similarly, Kohler enjoyed a 20% boost in sales after we enhanced their online shopping experience.
Our long-term collaboration with mCaffeine over four years has significantly scaled their brand recognition and success. Additionally, we successfully migrated Superbottoms’ tech stack within three weeks, leading to their impressive monthly processing of nearly 30,000 orders.
To date, we have revolutionized the online platforms of over 2,000 e-commerce brands worldwide by implementing state-of-the-art technology.
- What are your future growth and expansion plans?
Marmeto, steadfast in the e-commerce industry, celebrates seven years of resilience and growth. Moving past the initial bootstrapped phase, we are setting our sights on exponential financial and market expansion.
We have always achieved impressive year-on-year growth. While we continue to empower platforms, our vision extends to introducing custom development for an omnified experience alongside ventures into mobile app and software development. Our commitment remains strong in commerce, but we are strategically broadening our horizons through vertical expansion.
Looking ahead, Marmeto is poised for international growth. While India continues to be our core market, our ambition is to elevate Indian technology globally and showcase its value.
